A man fired 40 shots in Chula Soi 10, Pathumwan District, Bangkok. The shooter claimed that this was his way of relieving stress, his business has not been doing well and some days he only sells one pair of shoes. The incident took place on the morning of 14 February 2020 Valentine’s day. Locals in the area were shocked after hearing dozens of gunshots, especially after the mass shooting that just took place in Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
The shots started at 4 am in a local sports clothing store. Witnesses in the area reported that there were about 40 shots fired non-stop, the shooter shot into the air and in random directions. Those standing nearby were scared and all ran away in different directions, an attempt to stay safe. Police arrived at the location shortly after the shots stopped, there are reports that the shooter even tried to shoot one of the officers.
Finally at 5 am the shots stopped and officials entered inside the store to calm down the shooter. The shooter was still emotional so the police called the shooter’s brother. The brother came in and about 1 hour later the shooter finally calmed down and gave himself up to the police. Thankfully no one was injured in the dangerous incident. The shooter is Ekkachai Charuksilp 48 years old the owner of the store. He owned 4 registered guns and used 2 on Valentine’s day.
Ekkachai stated that he was stressed by personal problems. He had issues with his family and business was slow. Some Days he would only sell one pair of shoes. He confirms that there were no intentions to harm others. This is not the first time Ekkachai fired random shots. His wife has moved out because of fear. Ekkachai will be prosecuted accordingly and officials will be revoking his gun licenses due to his actions that are a danger to society.
