A YOUNG Thai man at a pharmacy on Koh Phangan island was arrested last night for using a bottle to bash the head of a female tourist who was blocking the entrance and refused to budge even though she had been warned many times, Thai News Agency reported this morning (August 28, 2018).
According to a post accompanying photos of the attack at Facebook member Natthicha Yachana’s page, she said she saw the incident at the pharmacy on Haad Rin beach upon returning from the Full Moon Party with a friend and stopping by to buy some medicine.
She said the foreign woman was sitting and eating in front of the drug store, and was probably told to move on and not block the entrance but refused to do so, which led to her being hit on the head with a bottle by this man, but adding that she did not think he should have got so violent considering that he was a man.
Pol Lt-Gen Apichart Boonsiroj, head of Surat Thani police, said after getting news of the attack from Facebook, he arrested the attacker who appeared in photos hitting the foreign female tourist’s head with a bottle, and is filing charges of assaulting and wounding others against him.
He added that the victim had not come in to file a complaint, but police think she is still on the island and are searching for her to do so in order to take legal action against her attacker.
He urged business operators on the island to call the police to sort out the problems and not resort to violence as it affects tourism.
