AN inspection point set up on the Motorway heading to Pattaya caught many taxi drivers not using meters but failed to net a single fake guide from around 50 vans and tour coaches checked yesterday (Jan. 18), INN News reported this morning (Jan. 19).
Tourist Police headed by Pol. Maj. Piyapong Aensarn, together with Motorway Police led by Pol. Capt. Choython Thawitpetsakul, set up a checkpoint at Section 5 of Motorway No. 7 in Banglamung district of Chonburi to check tour coaches and vans, with this being in keeping with National Police Chief’s policy to get tough on illegal guides. This profession is reserved for Thai nationals only.
However, not one fake guide was found on 15 vans 35 tour coaches they inspected yesterday.
Nevertheless several taxis were caught not using meters and they were all fined.
Pol. Capt. Choython said it is a new rule that taxi drivers have to correctly use the meter on all trips and with all passengers, and they also have to clearly display the fare for the passengers to see.
