Mass castration of wild monkeys

HUAY Kapi Sub-district officers and veterinarians in Chon Buri Province this morning (Aug 20, 2018) joined hands with volunteers to capture and castrate nearly 100 wild male monkeys that have caused a lot of trouble for Buddhist monks and visitors, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.

The vets deployed 50 cages with food in their first phase of operation. Huay Kapi mayor Amarin Tangprakob said more operations would be carried out until all the male monkeys – estimated to be around 1,000 – are castrated.

The monkeys have annoyed tourists and locals who came to make merit at Khao Choengthien Temple. “It is about time that we took action on this longstanding problem,” a local trader said.
