THERE is a massive traffic congestion at Prachuab Khiri Khan’s Bang Saphan distrct after two Bailey bridges were quickly erected to replace those damaged by floodwater, Thai News Agency quoted Apichart Chantanyakorn, Prachuab Khiri Khan Highway District Director, as saying today (Jan. 11).
For this reason he urged the public to postpone all except the most essential road journeys to and from the 14 Southern provinces.
While traffic can now move both ways on Petch Kasem Highway, the massive jam led to it taking over four hours to drive from Bang Saphan to Thap Sakae district, a distance of just 40 kilometers, he said.
Highway officials are rushing to repair the two bridges’ ramps damaged by forest runoff and hope to complete the job before Songkran holidays, Mr Apichart added.
However officials have been posted to help out at the two Bailey bridges all 24 hours.
