Minister wants income guarantee for farmers

AGRICULTURE and Cooperatives Minister Krisada Boonrat today (July 28, 2018) floated the concept of income guarantee for farmers, INN News reported.

The minister said talks by officials at the ministry reached a conclusion that there should be a calculation and evaluation of fair income for farmers and how much they should get to fairly undertake the agricultural profession.

General and social sciences plus mathematics could be used to reveal the truth, he said, citing the example of calculating the daily minimum wage which is currently at 300 baht and minimum 15,000 baht a month salary for someone holding a bachelor’s degree.

Initial talks reached a conclusion those involved in agriculture should be taken care of and be assured of minimum guaranteed income and not suffer a loss.

This minimum guaranteed income should be 20-30% of their investment in farming with this to include their personal wage too.

Farmers who follow various government projects should get other incentives on top of this minimum guaranteed income, the minister added.
