THAI police are investigating whether the death of a Chinese woman tourist at Ton Nga Chang Waterfall in Hat Yai district of southern Songkhla province last Thursday September 20 was an accident or murder after some suspicious evidence emerged, Sanook.com reported today (Sept. 24, 2018).
A bag containing the personal belongings of the deceased woman, Miss Lei Tian, 28, was found discarded in a trash can while the sim card of her mobile phone, found in the water, had been removed.
Upon being instructed by Deputy Chief of Tourist Police Pol Maj-Gen Surachet Hakphan to delve deeper into this case, Hat Yai Tourist Police today questioned a Chinese man who is a suspect in her death but he denies knowing her.
Police have seized the white Honda sedan he drove to the waterfall on that day to check.
Investigation showed that the 2 of them were friends and worked in the field of software in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The deceased woman flew to Thailand, while the Chinese man drove here across the border with a friend.
Police added that on Wednesday September 19 both of them had gone to this waterfall, the man driving there with his friend and she traveling there in a taxi.
The faxi driver said during trip she talked to some people over her mobile phone, and once they reached the waterfall, went to a sedan and met a man as if prearranged, and told him not to wait.
This sedan was the last to leave the waterfall while she was found dead at level one of this waterfall the next day.
After returning from the waterfall the Chinese man went to Songkhla city and then on to Krabi where police caught up with him, but he still denies knowing the deceased woman.
