THE water level at Lam Takong Dam in Nakhon Ratchasima, or Korat, is very low and farmers have been affected for this reason the public has been urged to use water sparingly, Thai News Agency said today (March 11).
Sutthiroj Kongkaew, Lam Takong Irrigation and Maintenance Project director, said the water at this dam is steadily decreasing with there now only being 69 million cubic meters left or 22% of 314 million cubic meters full capacity.
At the headwater area in Pak Chong district clay dunes have emerged stretching as long as 10 kilometers.
The authorities have urged farmers not to grow second rice crop in irrigated areas with the public too urged to use water sparingly so that there is enough to last the whole dry season.
