THE Rights and Freedom Protection Department (RFPD) is proposing new legal measures against convicted rapists while offering assistance and counsel for their victims, the Thai-language Daily News reported today (May 24, 2018)
“Repeated sex offenders who are considered a danger to society will now be sent to an isolated detention center in Nakhon Pathom Province,” said RFPD director-general Pitikarn Sittidej.
Each province will also be required to have two specially-trained female policewomen to offer counsel and assistance to female rape victims.
In serious cases, alleged sex offenders will be denied bail. If the offender is a school or college teacher, his or her licence will be revoked and they will be banned from teaching for life.
