New rail link for city’s commuters

BANGKOK’S very first monorail, codenamed “Gold Line,” was recently approved by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) with a target to start operating in December 2017.

The 1.8-kilometer first phase, which has three stations Khlong san, Charoen Nakhon and Krung Thon Buri, will link up with the BTS Silom line at S7 or Krung Thon Buri station.

Iconsiam Co., Ltd is investing 2 billion baht in building this monorail link and has been awarded the right to manage the advertising area for 30 years.

The mega riverfront mix-use Iconsiam project, which will be connected to the Charoen Nakhon station, will also likely open in December 2017 at the same time the first phase of this new monorail does.
