No respite for street vendors

Bangkok Governor Asawin Kwanmuang yesterday (Nov 21, 2018) stood firm that no vendors would be allowed to return to the capital city’s foothpaths, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

He made the statement after Interior Ministry Deputy Secretary-General Tanakom Jongjira sent a request to his office asking him to let the street vendors return to the spots that they had sold their goods.

“The clearing of Bangkok’s footpaths is meant to give Bangkokians and tourists more space to walk at ease,” he said.

“New spots had already been assigned for vendors, and locals and tourists know where to find them,” he added.
