No tip sign put up at Sadao checkpoint

THE new head of Immigration Bureau Pol Maj-Gen Surachet “Big  Joke” Hakphan quickly moved to halt the giving of any extra benefits to officers manning checkpoints nationwide warning them that they will face action if caught while a “no tip” sign  has been put up at Sadao checkpoint on the border with Malaysia, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported today (Oct. 4, 2018).

The Sadao border checkpoint at southern Songkhla province is a big one and Immigration officers there put up the “no tip” sign at both inbound and outbound passport control counters even though no surcharge has been imposed here for sometime now.

Pol Lt Col Theprasith Samsi, an inspector at Sadao Immigration, said tourists were very interested in the new sign and upon getting an explanation from Immigration police, were very satisfied with the policy.

This checkpoint is bustling with Malaysian tourists as usual and the officers have prepared for a big influx next week when the Vegetarian Festival starts.
