ONCB and AITF discover 28,000 Colorful Ecstasy pills

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board in the Ministry of Justice (ONCB) in cooperation with the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) discovered over 28,000 imported ecstasy pills. A Thai woman was arrested after a shipment came in via post from France. Inside the box was a large ziplock bag filled with 4,120 colorful ecstasy pills. Officials received information about a home related to the suspect where they found 24,000 ecstasy pills. This brings the evidence to a total of 28,120 ecstasy pills found on 8 October 2019.

Niyom Termsrisuk from the ONCB reported that the Control Board has seen growth in the use of ecstasy in Thailand. Although the drug targets a specific group of users, mainly those in the nightlife scene. There has been a consistent growth of ecstasy cases from 2014 to 2019. The number of patients for ecstasy treatment and rehab also continues to rise. Common issues related to long term ecstasy use is PTSD following the use, effects that cause conflict in day to day life.

Even Though ecstasy is not one of the main drugs with high use in the country such as Yaba pills and Crystal meth, the Prime Minister has ordered an emergency regulation to protect and help fix drug problems in the nation. Focusing on decreasing the demand for drugs among the people. Somsak Thepsutin the Justice Minister has reinforced the regulation to find international drug smugglers and to protect against drug use, especially in the case of high-risk groups. This is children and teenagers aged between 15 to 24 years old. The ONCB asks for cooperation from entertainment business locations and related sectors including parents and teachers to help keep close watch the children. Protect them from getting involved with drugs.
