Online gambling den busted in Pattaya

AN online gambling den was smashed in Pattaya last night (August 21) with this being part of a nationwide network  operated by Thai and foreign financiers, Thai News Agency said today.

Praphan Prathumchompoo, Bang Lamung deputy district chief, raised a team of police, soldiers and volunteers to raid a shophouse in Soi Phothisan 10 in Na Kluea subdistrict after district chief Naris Niramaiwong got a tip that online gambling and football betting was taking place there.

When the team reached the shophouse they found that the front had a sign saying it was an internet gaming shop but within were 30 computers displaying a variety of online gambling pages and there was also a table to take bets on overseas football matches.

Two persons were arrested, a 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, and all the equipment was seized as evidence.

Mr Naris said this den has just been operating for two weeks  and is part of a big Thai-foreign nationwide gambling network which police are tracking to completely uproot.
