There have been more than 4,300 Driving under the Influence (DUI) cases in just 4 days. These are the first 4 days in the 7 days of danger that takes place during New Years. This is 2,000 more cases compared to last year’s statistics. The province with highest number of DUI cases so far is Roi Et Province. Weerakit Hanpriparn from the Department of Probation revealed statistics on DUI cases from December 29th, 2022 to January 1st, 2023. There are a total of 4,508 DUI cases. There are also 197 cases of driving while under the influence of illegal substances. As for negligent driving, there are 11 cases in total.
The top 3 provinces with the highest number of DUI cases are 1. Roi Et with 255 cases, 2. Nonthaburi with 252 cases, and 3. Loei with 245 cases. When comparing the 4th day of danger in 2022 and 2023, the differences are shocking. On the 4th day in the 7 days of danger in 2022 there were only 52 DUI cases. This year on the 4th day, there are 2,613 DUI cases. The Department of Probation will continue to support 85 checkpoints supporting travelers during this time. Volunteers and related persons have provided free drinking water, cold tissues, information pamphlets, and more.
Due to the extreme increase in DUI cases, there will be enhanced measures against those in DUI cases. This includes supervised probation, participation in activities to educate in DUI and quitting drinking altogether. Officials will also send those with high risks to rehab centers organized by the Ministry of Public Health. There will also be 3 day behavior modification camps. Inside will be activities such as public service work, volunteer work with emergency teams, and more. This is to help educate against causes of road accidents such as the effects that can take place afterwards. These activities will help drivers to understand the dangers of driving while drunk and the importance of road safety.
