THE temperature is dropping steadily in the north and in Chiang Mai’s Omkoi district there are over 40,000 people living in mountainous valleys where the temperature is now in single digit who lack adequate warm clothing, Thai News Agency said today.
Children and elderly among these people are starting to fall sick and up on the hills and mountains the temperature is even colder, Thai News Agency added.
Meanwhile the Thai Meteorological Department warned that the temperature will drop by another 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the upper part of Thailand from today until December 3 as a result of a rather strong high pressure moving in from China.
In Bangkok, mornings will be cooler from today till December 2 with the temperature dropping 1-3 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperature will be 20-22 degrees Celsius and maximum 31-33 degrees. Mornings will continue to remain cool during December 3 and 4 but the minimum temperature will edge up slightly to 21 degrees Celsius.
The South from Chumphon downwards faces more rain during this period as a result of a northeast monsoon over the Gulf and the South strengthening while a low pressure cell now over South China Sea will also be passing over this lower stretch of the South.
