Rice farmers in Phichit have switched to planting crops that do not need a lot of water as the worst drought in 20 years hit the central Thai province, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported yesterday (Jan 1, 2020).
There is enough water in the reservoir behind Kwae Noi Bamrungdan Dam to feed people in the municipal area and the three districts of Muang, Tapanhin and Bang Moonnark. Irrigation officials are monitoring outlying areas that may need help.
“This is the worst drought in 20 years,” said Deputy Mayor Panuwat Yuttanavirasak.
