PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha issued an apology on behalf of the police after some members of the public got upset over use of force in arresting former monk Buddha Issara at Wat Or Noi in nearby Nakhon Pathom province earlier this week, Thai News Agency said this afternoon (May 26, 2018).
Government spokesman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prime Minister Prayut had warned the police and ordered that nothing like this must occur again.
Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan also issued a statement that the security forces had not stayed still over criticism that force was used to arrest the former monk and likewise apologized to the public on behalf of the police.
Defense Ministry spokesman Lt-Gen Khoncheep Tantavanich said Gen Prawit has warned the police that their action could affect the feelings of the followers and the general public.
The activist former monk faces charges of fraud over temple funds, using royal initials without permission and running an illegal secret society with the latter 2 charges stemming from the anti-Yingluck Shinawatra government demonstrations in February, 2014.
