PM Prayut moves to ease impact of new foreign labor law

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha  said he has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam to find a measure to relieve the impact of the Royal Decree on foreign workers and might invoke Article 44 of the interim Constitution to do so, Thai News Agency said today (June 30).

The Prime Minster said the fully understands the problems the public faces as a result of this new Royal decree which took effect on June 23.

That this decree was issued was aimed at resolving problems related to foreign workers and bring the laws up to date and that is why fines are as high as 400,000 to 800,000 baht but this has led to those impacted worrying, he added.

The Premier has also told the Labor Ministry to find a suitable channel in overseeing foreign workers particularly those employed by small and medium enterprises (SMEs0.

“What to do, if we use stern laws it causes trouble and everyone gets worried about problems.

“So I confirm I will do my best – if we stick to doing what’s right there’s nothing to worry about but a lot of wrong has been done in this regard, however I understand the problem, but when we are happy we don’t think about our action being wrong.

“Right now I am thinking about a relief measure especially for foreign workers working for SMEs which are very much impacted,” Prime Minister Prayut said.
