PM Prayut off to Sri Lanka to strengthen economic ties

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (July 12, 2018) flies to Sri  Lanka for a 2-day visit to upgrade the relations between the 2 countries to the level of an economic strategic partnership, Thai  News Agency reported.

Lt-Gen Weerachon Sukhontapatipak, deputy spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, said during his visit to Sri Lanka on July 12-13, 2018 Gen Prayut will be holding talks with Sri  Lankan Prime Minister Weerachon Sukhontapatipak and witness the signing of major agreements.

Among them are a treaty to extradite criminals and enforcement of the sentence in criminal cases; a memorandum of understanding on economic development and strategic partnership; a memorandum of understanding on adding value to basic products between Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Social Welfare and Basic Industry and Kasetsart University; as well as an agreement on applying the fundamentals of His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s philosophy of sufficiency economy in Sri Lanka.

The Thai Prime Minister and his delegation will be traveling to Kandy to pay homage to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and Sri Lanka is also giving an offshoot of a sacred Bodhi tree to bring back and plant in Thailand, with this linking the peoples of the 2 countries through religion too.
