PM Prayut reaffirms Asean’s stance in phone call with Trump

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said today (May 2) that US President Donald Trump confirmed strong relations with Thailand while he reaffirmed Asean’s and United Nations’ stance on the Korean peninsula, Thai News Agency said.

General Prayut told reporters after a Cabinet meeting that it was an honor getting a chance to talk to US President Trump over the phone and he congratulated Trump on becoming the 45th president of US and cheered and applauded him on completing 100 days in office.

“The US leader thanked me and confirmed maintaining and continuing strong relations between the two countries and also admired the work I have done so far. He mentioned that if there are problems he is willing to help,” Prime Minister Prayut said.

“The US leader also invited me and my wife to visit US as guests of the White House and I also invited him to visit Thailand including joining the Apec meeting in Vietnam this year and he agreed to do so.”

The Thai Prime Minister added that the US leader also talked about Thailand’s relations with China and Japan and he replied that Thailand has good relations with all countries.

Regarding the tensions on the Korean peninsula, Premier Prayut told the US President he thinks it should be a zone of peace not force and reaffirmed Asean’s and United Nations’ resolutions not supporting use of force and nuclear weapons.
