Police raids net big haul of fake goods

POLICE cracked down on a gang of smugglers and seized over 100,000 pieces of imported counterfeit goods as well as those that had dodged customs duties in three raids and pointed to a foreigner as being this ring’s financier, Matichon newspaper said today (June 16).

Department of Special Investigation Chief Pol. Col. Paisit Wongmuan together with Deputy DSI Chief Pol. Maj .Suriya  Singhakamol, Bureau of Intellectual Property Crime Director Pol. Col.Pinit Tungsakul and Vice Chairwoman of the Private Sector Committee for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights Mala Tangprasert told the press today that pirated goods such as mobile phones, mobile phone batteries, bags, cosmetics and other products were brought into the kingdom through the northeastern border without clearing customs and sold within the country.

As much as two to three containers full of these illegal products were coming into Bangkok at one time and stored in a warehouse on Kanchanapisek Road. The fake goods were distributed to retailers both in Bangkok and the provinces

Pol Maj Suriya said the foreign financer raked in over 400 million baht profit from 2016 up to today.

He added there are four to five big importers of fake goods and police know who they are with one being Jae Hor. He sent a message to the godfathers and godmothers of smugglers to stop their illegal activities because DSI is going to crack down on all of them.

Pol Col.Pinit said the Bureau of Intellectual Property Crime obtained search warrants to check three targets with the first being a warehouse on Bangramat road in Thawi Watthana District, the second a container on Bangramat road and finally a house in Harmony estate in Rachapruek area of Nonthaburi and over 100,000 pieces of fake goods and those that had not paid customs duties were seized.
