Police round up underage youths at club

POLICE raided an entertainment venue at Phutthamonthon Sai 1 Road just after midnight last night after getting reports that it lets youths younger than 20 years enter the premises,Thai News Agency said today (March 25).

At 00.30 a.m. today a 100-strong team of police officers and officials from the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection raided this club after being tipped off by the public that it is disobeying National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) announcement No.22/2558 and letting youths younger than 20 years come in.

Upon entering they spotted a lot of youths younger than 20 years there so they shut the door to check their ID cards with this triggering a stampede but police managed to stop the clubbers from leaving.

They found that there were 12 teenagers younger than 18 years there at the time. There was  another group of clubbers who did not have their ID cards on them with the latter taken to Phasi Charoen police station for verification and fined for not carrying this card.

This entertainment venue faces five charges with these being keeping the club open longer than permitted; operating an entertainment venue without a permit; letting youths and teenagers use their service; selling alcohol to youths and in their advertisement misguiding youths. The penalty the operator faces is closure of this business for five years.
