PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha revealed today (Sept. 28) that the Foreign Ministry has unofficially told him former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra is in Dubai while the police said they are double-checking this information and will contact Interpol once it checks out, INN News reported.
General Prayut said after the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders sentenced Ms Yingluck to 5 years in jail without parole upon finding her guilty of negligence in preventing corruption and irregularities in her government’s rice-pledging scheme that everyone is equal under the law because the same law applies to all but no matter which case which he is interested in following once the verdict has been handed down it is over because the courts have so many other cases.
Prime Minister Prayut added that the same steps will be followed as applied to all cases. That is once a verdict has been given and the defendant is not present an arrest warrant is issued and if found arrested.
However if this person is abroad it depends on the other country whether they send this person back or not, he said, adding it is the responsibility of the police to take these steps and liaise with the Foreign Ministry to follow up.
The Prime Minister also said that revocation of Ms Yingluck’s passport is something for the National Police Policy Committee to undertake but the Foreign Ministry has unofficially told him that she is currently Dubai.
Meanwhile Pol. Maj, Gen. Chayapol Chatchaidej, commander of Special Branch division 4, said as Prime Minister Prayut has said Ms Yingluck is in Dubai which is something he and his team were able to find out the police is double-checking whether she is there or not.
If Ms Yingluck is in Dubai then Thai police will ask Interpol to check after which this organization would consider whether a blue or red notice is to be issued for police in various countries to track down and arrest her.
However Pol. Maj, Gen. Chayapol underscored that this would only happen after Interpol has checked this information.
Police are also considering asking for warrant to search Ms Yingluck’s house in Soi Yothin Pattana 3.
Pol. Maj, Gen. Chayapol added the DNA of a woman found on the seat of a sedan which Pol. Col. Chairith Anurith, a deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, is said to have driven in Ms Yingluck’s escape is being compared with her DNA to be used as evidence in tracking her down.
