Power blackout causes panic in 4 Thai provinces

A one-hour power blackout caused panic in the four northern Thai provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun and Phayao this morning (29 March), the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.

In an interview with the paper, a spokesman for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) said the blackout was caused by a technical problem at the Mae Moh power plant.

Technicians were able to fix the problem at 11 a.m., much to the relief of residents and hospitals, which switched to their emergency power generators, said the paper.
