Pre-dawn raid nets 43 bike racers

A JOINT pre-dawn raid by some police divisions netted 43 bike racers among whom 25 are underage and seizure of 36 motorcycles with the suspects having been racing through Petchkasem road most of the night, Thai News Agency said today (May 6).

Bike racers motorcycles seizedAt around 4 a.m. today Patrol and Special Operation 191 Police and Metropolitan Police Division 9 together with other police divisions totaling around a hundred officers joined forces and moved into the Mall Bang Khae car park and rounded the suspects who had been racing in Bang Khae area from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Patrol and Special Operation Division 191 chief Pol Maj Gen. Surachet Hakpan said the next step is to call the parents of underage bike racers and inform them of the offence. Should these youngsters repeat the offense their parents face legal action with the penalty being 30,000 baht fine or maximum 3 months in jail.

Youths over 18 years of age will initially be read their charges and then sent to police investigators for further legal action.
