The Prime Minister of Thailand and head of the National Council for Peace and Order Prayuth Chan-o-cha reported in the Government House after a cabinet meeting at 1.45 pm on the 18th of this month (18 June 2019). Thailand is the Chairman for the 34th ASEAN Summit taking place from 20 – 23 June 2019 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
PM Prayuth stated that everyone should give importance to the ASEAN Summit, to work together, to believe together, into success and prosperity for the future of Thailand. The 2019 ASEAN Summit will touch on many important topics that play an important role in the growth of ASEAN members. This includes the economy, society, stability, and cultural aspects.
The topic of the economy will have to be enhanced and focused on as there are current problems developing in the economy, the issue will be discussed on an international level. There is also the meetings taking place at the end of this year. Thailand has been the 2019 ASEAN Summit Chairman for 6 months. Many meetings have taken place, there will be a total of 180 meetings taking place in 2019.
The meetings held previous to the ASEAN Summit is to gather information to plan for finding solutions and to discuss leading to the ASEAN Summit. After the ASEAN Summit to the end of the year, the meetings will be reviewing the results from the summit. There will also be the discussions on which member nation will be the 2020 ASEAN Summit Chairman.
PM Prayuth states, “This is our future, we have a lot of abilities, if we fight a lot within our own country then internationally we cannot step ahead. Who loses? Our people if Thailand doesn’t step forward.”.
