Protest against judges’ homes on a hill

ABOUT 1,500 Chiang Mai residents staged a rally today (April 29) calling for the demolition of judges’ residences at the foot of the famous Doi Suthep mountain outside the provincial town, Sanook.com reported.

Scattered protests had been staged before, but today’s gathering was the biggest show of public anger over the destruction of verdant forest.

“We have sent protest notes to the governor but the construction work is still going on. With this first big rally, we hope the government will take action,” said a protester.
