Rare teak house for monks burnt down

A RARE 100-year-old teak house for monks was burnt down early this morning (Dec. 6) in the northern Thai province of Uttaradit, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported.

Phrakru Soontorn Wiriyopart, the abbot of Wat Nathalae in Lablae District, said the fire also destroyed three other wooden living quarters, six ancient Buddha images and other valuables worth altogether about 30 million baht.

All the affected monks are temporarily accommodated on the temple’s main open pavilion. Police are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
