RAYONG’S Ban Khai district got heavily flooded in many areas today (May 27) after torrential rain lasting over four hours from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. lashed this area and while the rain has begun to ease and stop, the floodwater level remains high, Naewna newspaper said.
Flooding has spread to many important areas of this district with floodwater gushing down the road in front of Nong Lalok Subdistrict Administrative Organisation. Although vehicles could still pass, drivers had to go through very cautiously.
There is also floodwater waiting to be drained out in front of Ban Khai Hospital with drivers again having to be extra careful.
Many houses in this district have been flooded, damaging their property, while behind Wat Mai Krabok Khuen Phueng, Bang But subdistrict, a mass of water from high areas quickly flowed into the flooded plain.
The situation is particularly worrying in Soi Nong Mapring, Ta Khan subdistrict, with this being a 2.2-kilometre alley next to Nein-Chak Bok road and flooding high a kilometre down from the entrance with floodwater also flowing into many houses. Residents said this area gets flooded every year, but inundation is more severe this year because it has been raining for several days in a row.
Although flooding causes difficulties, it is also an opportunity for local people to catch fish and prepare a special menu called “spicy fried fish fry” with ingredients only found during floods.
While the rain eased by 10 a.m. today, floodwater will only gradually drain out and the situation then returning to normal.
