SOME foreigners were arrested in both Laos and Thailand as part of a joint Asean crackdown on drug trafficking with large amounts of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine (Ice) seized, INN News reported this morning (Sept 28, 2018)
Mr Sirinya Sidhichai, secretary-general of Narcotics Control Board, said foreigners were among the drug suspects arrested in 3 cases that were solved with the help of Asean Airport Interdiction Task Force, and Asean Seaport Interdiction Task Force.
Details of the 3 cases are as follows:
- First case: Mr Chiang Yi Pin, a Taiwanese national, was arrested with 355 kilograms of Ice in Pattaya;
- Second case: join action by Thailand and Laos led to the arrest of 2 Portuguese drug traffickers at Luang Prabang International Airport as they were trying to smuggle 2 kilograms of cocaine through the customs. Also linked to them is a Bolivian man who was arrested at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane with 5 kilograms of cocaine in his possession;
- Third case: Two women, Miss Nisa Phatsorn Kortradee and Miss Sasiwimon Wangman, were arrested at Aranyaprathet checkpoint on the border with Cambodia as they were trying to smuggle 3.5 kilograms of cocaine into Thailand. They are were drug mules hired by west African drug dealers in Bangkok.
