THE male elephant now named Tara which a hundred rescuers pulled up from a canal in northern Phitsanulok province last Wednesday reached the Thai Elephant Conservation Center’s Elephant Hospital in Lampang province before dawn today (Oct. 20), Thai-language Thai Rath newspaper reported.
At 5 am this morning a 10-wheel truck brought Tara to the hospital after spending a lot of time lifting him on to the large vehicle. Both the elephant’s hind legs are badly injured as he struggled in the deep canal from last Monday till his rescue on Wednesday.
A team of veterinarians from both the Elephant Hospital and Chiang Mai University are closely following Tara’s condition and taking good care of him.
Thaveephok Angkwanich, manager for elephant conservation and care at the Elephant Hospital, said because Tara is weak the team of veterinarians let him rest on the truck for a while and did not move him down right away.
After he is moved down the veterinarians will be giving him a full checkup.
