THE draft design of a remarkable project to build a 14-kilometer walkway on both sides of the Chao Phraya River will be completed in September.
Working on the draft design, with the 14-kilometer promenade being just the first phase, are King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and Khon Kaen University. It will start at Rama VII Bridge and end at Somdet Phra Pinklao Bridge.
The walkway, which will also have bicycle lanes, will be seven to 10 meters wide.
Although the project is worth 14 billion baht, the whole amount will not be spent on building the promenade with some of it to be channeled for other purposes as follows:
- Developing communities around this area to be a local learning center and tourist sport;
- Renovate museums, parks, ports and places of worship;
- Improve access from the main road;
- Build recreation areas, pavilions, a tourist information center and two pedestrian bridges across the river.
