Robber kills Laotian man, raids his home

A YOUNG Laotian man was shot dead in a forest park in northeastern Loei province last night with the robber taking all that he had on him and then raiding his home to get more from his distraught family, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported today (Jan.28).

At 1.30 am  Pol. Capt. Thanongrith Wathana, duty inspector at Chiang Klom station, rushed to a forest park in the subdistrict of the same name in Pak Chom district with rescuers and a doctor from Pak Chom Hospital after getting a report of the cold-blooded robbery.

There they found the victim, Thaothad Boonthawong, 28, an itinerant worker from Laotian capital Vientiane, shot in the temple and left arm.

His wife, Mrs Siphothong told police that she, husband, their disabled 7-year-old daughter and parents-in-law had crossed over to Thailand to look for work and lived in a hut in the middle of the forest park.

Her husband had gone out to search for useful things in the forest park and check the traps he had put up in the streams but after a while they heard a gunshot.

A little later a man carrying a gun came into their hut and asked for the remainder of their money. However, the family told him they did not have anything else to give him.

The robber then searched the hut and upon not finding anything valuable, shot at her father-in-law, but fortunately the bullet did not hit him, then went away.

Mrs Siphothong added that the robber took 26,000 baht plus a  mobile phone from her husband.
