A SUSPECT who police say is a serial bag snatcher with his tactic being to speed through footpaths and grab bags from women has been arrested after injuring a TV Channel 5 worker, Thai News Agency said last evening (Nov. 13).
The latest victim was identified as Mrs Aphichaya Kornkaew, 28, a worker at TV Channel 5 whose bag was snatched from her just as she was walking along Phaholyothin road from the station to a bus stop at Victory Monument.
She said her arm got broken because the strap of her bag got wound around her elbow and she was dragged along as the motorcycle thief sped away.
Metropolitan Police Division 1 arrested Mr Banphot Thinwongmorb, 28, at a flat in Bang Sue area where they found bags, mobile phones and jewelry.
Police said the suspect usually drove around on his motorbike looking for women walking alone and that he had snatched bags and other belongings from women 11 times from October until his arrest yesterday.
Pol. Lt .Gen. Charnthep Saesavej, acting head of Metropolitan Police, said the suspect chose women with bags slung across their shoulder and would drive on the footpath to snatch it.
He added that a lot of such thefts are taking place right now and he has order all police stations to track down the snatchers when complaints are filed.
