More than 2,000 rai of Jasmine rice in the central Thai province of Phichit are facing severe drought and farmers are praying for rain that will replenish their ricefields, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported yesterday (July 22, 2020).
Hardest hit is Wangsaipoon District, where farmers can plant rice only once a year.
Wangsaipoon Jasmine rice is well-known by consumers. Irrigation officials are considering drawing water from outlying areas to replenish the current crop.
