Shady filling of land being investigated

POLICE are investigating the use of soil from the construction of Ratchayothin tunnel to fill private sector land plots with some policemen possibly implicated to be questioned on Friday, Thai News Agency reported today (August 29, 2018).

Pol Maj-Gen  Sompong Chingduang, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police, said after a meeting of a committee investigating the use of the tunnel’s soil that aside from the policemen possibly involved, also identified are 1 to 2 other persons whose business is to fill land.

A letter has been sent to the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority to check the Terms of Reference in the construction of this tunnel and the private contractor has also been questioned.

However Pol Maj-Gen  Sompong added that it is not yet clear whether the policemen have done anything wrong. It is also still not clear whether a private party bought the soil and the policemen were just hired to transport it, with a little more time needed to investigate this issue.

This investigation was launched after an individual sent a letter to the Metropolitan Police to investigate the transport of this soil, which belongs to the state, to the private party’s land plots.

While the BMA, as the damaged party, would have to file a complaint, Pol Maj-Gen Sompong mentioned that because this would be a wrongdoing against the state, the police can also raise charges.
