NONG KHAI provincial officials are closely monitoring the Mekong River flowing through their northeastern province after a sudden 1.22-meter rise in river water level, Sanook.com reported today (June 29, 2018)
This northeastern province has been hit by heavy rains for past 3 days. In the upper Mekong River province of Loei the water level has also risen by 1.47 meters.
The sudden increase of the river water level has affected fish farmers raising fish along the Mekong River who keep the fish in cages, as they fear these cages might be broken by the strong currents.
These cages are tied to poles on the river bank and these fish farmers say too strong currents would force them to replace ropes with metal chains.
