A RUSSIAN woman who got lost after going for a swim from Na Jomtien beach was rescued by a fisherman seven hours later off Bang Saray beach last, Thai Rath newspaper said last evening (Sep. 26).
At 4.30 p.m. the owner of a squid fishing boat, Tai Jum, contacted Mr. Suphot Chomdokmai, 40, to come in his speedboat and take a Russian woman he found floating in the sea off Bang Saray beach, Chonburi, back to the shore.
When he reached the squid boat he found that the fisherman had already plucked her from the sea and he then quickly brought her to the Fishing and Tourism Club at Bang Saray.
Upon being asked, the 32-year-old Russian woman said she was staying at a hotel in Na Jomtien and had drunk a little bit of alcohol before going for a swim at 9 a.m.
After swimming out eight kilometres, she ran out of energy and lost direction so floated and asked for help from some boats in the area with this fishing boat finally helping her at 4 p.m.
Suphot said after quickly picking up the Russian woman from the fishing boat he safely brought her back to the shore taking her to the pavilion of Fishing and Tourism Club at this beach. He then contacted Sawang Rojanatham Foundation to take her to the hospital for a checkup and called her hotel to take her back to her lodgings once this was over.
