Teachers protect children from a school knife attack.

Teachers successfully protected children during a knife attack inside a school. The attacker was on drugs and lost control as he entered the school holding a knife. School personnel have practiced in case an attacker ever entered after the sad incident in Nong Bua Lamphu Province. Ming Sala 30 years old attacked his 45-year-old mother with a wooden weapon in the head. He returned afterward and burned down his home on 2 November 2022. Villagers notified police that Ming was on the way to his 4-year-old son at the Non Suwan Child development center.

Teachers inside the center were notified and started preparing for his arrival. Their worst fear is another case similar to the sad case in Nong Bua Lamphu. Daoprakai Kampuchat one of the teachers stated that the center locks every door after all the children arrive. There are 90 students but only 50 came to school. The main activity for the day is to practice dancing for Loy Krathong Festival. Parents started running to the school stating that Ming was coming to the school and was seen holding a knife. The children were all moved to the second floor and all doors were locked. The children were not informed so they would remain calm.

The Non Suwan municipality mayor Supisata Sriknam stated officials have planned out what to do in case a similar event took place. The municipality can only spread awareness of drug use, but law enforcement is left to the police. She was not sure how long and if Ming could be handled. The security camera shows that Ming really came to the school. The best they can do is keep doors locked from outsiders. This is a protection method intended to keep the children safe before he has the opportunity to do something bad. With the right planning, children can be kept safe from future attacks on schools and learning centers.
