Temperature at Doi Inthanon peak only 9°C

NORTHERN Chiang Mai province is starting to get cold with the temperature at the top of its famous Doi Inthanon peak being just 9 degrees Celsius this morning (Oct. 30) and tourists are rushing in to enjoy the nip in the air, Thai News Agency reported.

The temperature at Thailand’s highest mountain in Chiang Mai’s Chom Thong district dropped 3 degrees Celsius overnight and this morning lots of tourists went up to the peak to enjoy the sea of mist at sunrise.

However as it was very misty at dawn the visibility was poor.

Doi Inthanon two

Offficials have warned tourists driving up to the top of Doi Inthanon to do so carefully especially when taking shortcuts.

Meanwhile the Thai Meteorological Department said this morning that a rather strong high-pressure system from China has covered upper Thailand leading to a cool spell with 2-4 °C drop in temperature and strong winds.

There a monsoon trough across the lower South due to the active low-pressure cell in lower South China Sea.

Strong winds and waves 2-3 meters high are likely in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. All ships should proceed with caution, with small boat keeping ashore.

In Bangkok the forecast is for partly cloudy sky with the temperature dropping by 1-3 °C amid strong winds. Minimum temperature is 23-24 °C while maximum temperature 32-34 °C. Northeasterly winds are around 15-30 km/hr.
