Thai citizens want improvement as bus fare rises.

Nida Poll reveals that the Thai citizens want public transportation to improve along with the buses increasing their prices. The bus public transportation system has increased, both in normal buses and the air-conditioned buses.

The poll revealed that the number 1 demand is to improve the interior in the buses. The 2nd place went to the demand for the bus staff to improve their customer service while selling the bus tickets and for the driver to drive better on the road. The 3rd place goes to the demand for more buses so that there is enough to come on schedule and so that there is no overload of passengers while in rush hour.

 

Nida Poll Survey published the poll on Thai citizens opinions of the bus services in the Public Transportation System after the increase of bus fares that took place recently. The poll included customers of the public transportation system in Bangkok and the outskirts of Bangkok from citizens of all educational backgrounds and all occupations. A total of 1,258 citizens joined in the poll conducted between the 29th of April to the 2nd of May 2019.

 

When asked how much their weekly cost on the fares of public transportation increased since the increase in bus fares took place, 87.20% stated that their cost has increased no more than 100 THB, 10.97% stated that there cost has increased between 101 to 200 THB, 1.59% stated that their cost has increased between 201 to 300 THB, and 0.24% revealed that their cost has increased to more than 301 THB per week.

When asked how much has changed from their normal use of public buses in their daily life, 46.74% stated that they only use public buses when necessary, 16.69% stated that nothing has changed in their normal choice of public transportation, 13.35% stated that they have decided to convert to use public vans instead, 11.29% stated that they are willing to wait longer than usual for a cheaper public transportation choice to arrive, 10.81 stated that they have changed to using the BTS or MRT instead, and 8.03% stated that they have changed to using their personal vehicle instead.

 

When asked what they wish would improve in the service of public buses, 54.87% stated that they want the interior of the buses to improve, such as the air conditioning system, the seats, and the cleanliness, 46.02% stated that they wished the service would improve from the bus staff while selling the tickets and the for the driver to drive better on the roads, and 45.92% stated that they wished more buses were available so that the buses could arrive on the scheduled time.
