Thai ‘drug mules’ held in Japan
Narcotics suppression officials yesterday (20 Oct 2019) warned Thai women against accepting free trips to Japan, which has been tightening its monitoring of female drug traffickers from Thailand, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported.
The warning follows the arrest in September of seven Thai women at the Fukuoka Airport, with more than one kilogram of ‘ice’ (crystal methamphetamines) in their suitcases.
Mr. Niyom Termsisook, secretary-general of the Narcotics Prevention and Suppression Office, said 37 Thai citizens, most of them women, were detained in Japan for drug trafficking last year. These women were offered free trips to Japan by drug traffickers.
