Thai and Dutch police net major child porn suspect

JOINT action by Thai and Dutch  police led to the arrest of a Moldavian man in western Prachuab Kriri Khan province on the charges of circulating child pornography and raking in over 120 million baht income a year, Sanook.com reported today (May 17).

Pol Lt-Gen Worawat Watnakornbuncha, head of Technology Crime Suppression Division, together with police from the Netherlands arrested Cependiuc Serghei, 30, a Moldavian citizen who has been in Thailand since 2009, on the charges of disseminating child pornography to a worldwide network of members for financial gain .

The suspect is accused of opening and running a website offering a service to store child pornography photos and videos and disseminating them to premium-level clients who can watch and download these files.

The monthly fee was US$19.95 or around 635 baht. Police found out that the suspect was able to obtain as much as US$3,889,000 a year, or around 123 million baht, with all the illegal income going to a company registered in Dominican Republic.

Serghei took care of the website, police said, and it was information from Dutch police which led to his arrest.

Another front of this international anti-child pornography action was in Bulgaria, where another suspect has been arrested, and investigation is expanding to other suspects.
