Thai fishing boat rescues Myanmar crew

A THAI fishing boat rescued a Myanmar cargo vessel’s captain his crew of 14 men after their boat sank in the sea off Phuket, Thai News Agency said today (May 25).

At 3 am today Thai fishing boat Or Arun Samut 5 plucked the captain and his crew from a rubber dinghy they were floating on off Racha Noi island near Phuket and brought them safely to Ratsada Port but the boat’s cargo was scattered widely across the sea.

The Myanmar-registered cargo vessel’s captain told Pol Lt Col Nattapong Phrathat- dharakul, a marine inspector, and his team of marine police that they has set sail from Penang on May 18 with a cargo of consumer goods and were due to arrive at Myanmar’s Myeik port on May 27.

However on the way a giant wave hit their boat and damaged it leading to seawater pouring in. As the pump was not able to get the seawater out and the boat started sinking the captain said he told his crew to get on the rubber dinghy and they were fortunately rescued by the Thai vessel fishing in the area.
