SOME farmers in lower northern province of Uthai Thani are suffering after over a thousand rai of paddy fields got flooded with water gushing in from both rising Chao Phraya River and Wang Rom Klao Dam, Thai News Agency said today (July 12).
Suthep Tuanthep, head of Tambon Administration Organization at Noen Chaeng subdistrict of Uthai Thani’s Muang district, said not only is the Chao Phraya overflowing its banks Wang Rom Klao Dam too is releasing water leading to paddy fields getting swamped just 20 days away from harvest.
The flow of Chao Phraya River at C2 Station in Nakhon Sawan today (July 12) was 1,100 cubic meters a second and this led to floodwater at Namsong subdistrict of Phayuha Khiri district spilling into Uthai Thani’s village group 8.
The floodwater on a road running through Uthai Thani’s village groups 6 and 8 is 50 to 100 meters high for a distance of a kilometer.
Mr Suthep took relief officials on flat-bottom boats to help the flood victims in village groups 6 and 8 with their arrival helping flood-bound residents commute and he has also set up tents for them to live in should the floodwater rise higher but some households have already moved there.
