Tour bus carrying Songkran revelers hits trailer truck

A pre-Songkran accident took place early this morning when a tour bus carrying Myanmar citizens from Bangkok to a border city to cross over to their own country slammed into a trailer truck but fortunately only 10 passengers were slightly injured, Thai News Agency said today (April 9).

The accident occurred at around 6 a.m. this morning when the tour bus carrying around 50 Myanmar passengers hit the trailer truck on Asia Highway at Chaiyo district of Angthong province. Both men and women were among the 10 injured passengers who later managed to reach the border city of Mae Sot in Tak province to cross over to their country on another tour bus.

Police rushed to the scene and questioned the tour bus driver, Promsorn Suwanporn, who allegedly admitted  that he had taken an amphetamine tablet before leaving Bangkok with his Myanmar passengers and had dozed off just before crashing into the rear of the trailer truck which bore marks of being hit. He has been taken into custody for further legal procedures.
