PITCHING in to help rice farmers is True Corporation which announced today that it will sell rice purchased directly from these farmers by Charoen Pokphand Group at cost price all True Shop and True Coffee outlets nationwide from the third week of this month onwards, Thai News Agency said.
Suphachai Chearavanont, CEO of True Corporation, said because True Group wanted to alleviate the suffering of farmers in accordance with government policy it is bringing rice which Charoen Pokphand Group will buy directly from farmers to sell at almost 300 True Shop and True Coffee outlets in all key areas of the country at cost price without taking any profit.
This is a move to make it easier for the public to choose and buy the variety of rice they want, he added.
Meanwhile in Phichit province a weekly market to sell rice and agricultural goods opened for the first day today in front of the agricultural office with farmers and community enterprises from various districts selling rice at a starting price of 30 baht a kilogram.
With there being white, jasmine and organic rice at this new market, it drew a lot of attention from the public, Thai News Agency added.
At the same time Uttaradit province governor Phiphat Aekphaphat linked up with an agricultural cooperative and bought 46,000 tonnes of rice directly from farmers without passing through middlemen and opened a sales spot in front of the provincial town hall today.
As rice is being sold at an affordable price, it is attracting a lot of buyers and it is expected that stocks would have to be replenished soon.
