UNESCO honors Kampol Watcharapol

THE ongoing UNESCO General Conference session in Paris has issued a resolution honoring the late eminent Thai newspaper owner Kampol Watcharapol alongside other international cultural personalities.

Mr Kampol established the Thai-language daily Thai Rath on January 5, 1950, after his failed attempts to start another two newspapers. It sustained to be the largest selling Thai-language newspaper until today.

His nomination was supported by Malaysia, South Korea and Vietnam, according to Education Minister Tirakiat Charoensettasin.
