Villagers in Buriram Province have planted trees on a road that is taking forever to build. The road is only 2 kilometers long but it has been over 2 years and locals are still driving on dirt. Villagers from Ban Na Klang near the main city of Buriram Province made complaints to the media about the road. This is the main path in the area where many use daily, a construction company was assigned the job but only 400 meters has been completed in a period of over 2 years. Villagers in the area have planted trees in the middle of the road all along the route mocking the local authorities that are related to the issue.
Over 200 villagers have come to the media about the issue. Locals state that the road is extremely bumpy. This causes even more problems when it is school time as students have to use the road every morning and evening to reach their schools in the city of Buriram. Kritsana Sangdee 39 years old a villager stated that villagers have a lot of trouble using the road. The village is only 13 kilometers away from the city of Buriram so the roads shouldn’t be so bad. Locals have decided to come out to the media because schools will be starting soon and they hope related officials will deal with the problems before parents and students have to use the road.
Bunthan Sangdee 55 years old the village chief in Moo4, Nong Tat Sub-district revealed that this specific route is used by 4 villages, it is the only way to enter the city. About 2 years ago the Nong Tat Municipality brought equipment to fix the road. The construction company started building the road and then disappeared after only 400 meters was completed. Villagers are confused and have no choice but to continue driving on the terrible dirt road. The local government has stayed silent on the issue.
Villagers have several plants in the middle of the road as sarcasm towards the local government. They hope that maybe such actions will help remind authorities to finish building the road. Narong Prapin the Mayor of Nong Tat stated that the road-building was abandoned by a construction company. They have found a new contractor but then the new company wouldn’t come in to complete the contract. The municipality has continued to contact this contractor who has now promised to finish the contract within 15 days. The mayor believes that the road will be done soon.
